# Third-party notices

lofy (https://lofy.dev) ships or uses the third-party components listed here. For
each one this file gives the files, version, licence, copyright line, source,
and what lofy changed. It lists the obligations each licence names and the
questions still open. It draws no legal conclusions.

`npm run stamp` copies this file into the deploy, so lofy.dev serves it at
`/THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md`. Paths below are relative to `endless_lofi_engine/`.
Full licence texts are at the end.

## Code

### three.js

- Files: `vendor/three.core.js`, `vendor/three.module.js`, and the addons
  `vendor/three-addons/loaders/GLTFLoader.js`,
  `vendor/three-addons/utils/BufferGeometryUtils.js`,
  `vendor/three-addons/utils/SkeletonUtils.js`.
- Licence: MIT. Copyright 2010-2026 three.js authors.
- Source: https://github.com/mrdoob/three.js (npm `three@0.183.0`).
- Modifications: none.
- Obligation: keep the copyright and permission notice with copies. The core and
module files carry an SPDX header; the addons carry none, so the MIT text below
  covers them.

### postprocessing

- File: `vendor/postprocessing.module.js`.
- Licence: Zlib. Copyright 2015-2026 Raoul van Rüschen.
- Source: https://github.com/pmndrs/postprocessing (npm `postprocessing@6.39.3`).
- Modifications: none.
- Obligation: do not remove the notice; mark altered versions as altered.

### hydra-synth

- File: `vendor/hydra-synth.js`.
- Licence: GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). npm
  `hydra-synth@1.4.0` declares `"license": "AGPL"`; the upstream repository's
LICENSE is the GNU AGPL v3.
- Copyright: Olivia Jack and contributors.
- Source: https://github.com/hydra-synth/hydra-synth (release 1.4.0) and npm
  `hydra-synth@1.4.0`.
- Modifications: the vendored file is an esm.sh browser bundle of hydra-synth
1.4.0. The bundle imported two Node polyfills by URL (`/node/process.mjs`,
`/node/events.mjs`). lofy replaced them with inline shims at the top of the file:
  a `process` stand-in (`hrtime`, `uptime`, `nextTick`, empty `env`) and a minimal
EventEmitter. The file header states this.
- Source offer: the corresponding source is the upstream 1.4.0 release above plus
the shim code at the top of `vendor/hydra-synth.js`, which is readable as
  served.
- Bundled inside the file (all MIT unless noted): regl (Copyright (c) 2016 Mikola
Lysenko), meyda (Copyright (c) 2014 Hugh A. Rawlinson, Nevo Segal, Jakub
Fiala), raf-loop (Copyright (c) 2014 Matt DesLauriers) and its dependencies raf
(Copyright 2013 Chris Dickinson), right-now, events (Copyright Joyent, Inc. and
other Node contributors) and inherits (ISC, Copyright (c) Isaac Z. Schlueter).
  hydra-synth 1.4.0 declares `regl ^1.3.9`, `meyda ^5.6.3`, `raf-loop ^1.1.3`. The
bundle carries no version strings; the texts below come from regl 1.7.0, meyda
  5.6.3, raf-loop 1.1.3, raf 3.4.1, right-now 1.0.0, events 1.1.1 and inherits
  2.0.4.
- Obligations named by the licence: AGPL-3.0 section 5 asks for a notice that
the work was modified (done in the header); sections 4-6 ask conveyors to pass
on the licence text and offer the corresponding source. This file links the
AGPL text (https://www.gnu.org/licenses/agpl-3.0.txt) and does not reproduce
  it. See Open questions.

### butterchurn

- Files: `vendor/butterchurn/butterchurn.umd.min.js`,
  `vendor/butterchurn/butterchurn.esm.js` (lofy's ESM shim),
  `vendor/butterchurn/presets/index.js` (lofy's loader), `vendor/butterchurn/LICENSE`.
- Licence: MIT. Copyright (c) 2013-2018 Jordan Berg.
- Source: https://github.com/jberg/butterchurn (npm `butterchurn@2.6.7`). The
bundle has no version string; `docs/visuals.md` records the version.
- Modifications: the UMD is patched so `updateShader` frees the program it
replaces. Line 1 of the file describes the patch and carries the marker
  `LOFY-PATCH-ID: butterchurn-updateShader-delete`.
The renderer also accepts an optional `beforeComposite(gl, framebuffer, width,
height, frame)` render callback after the feedback draw and before the output
composite. Lofy uses it to inject audio lines into MilkDrop feedback without
creating another WebGL context. Marker: `LOFY-PATCH-ID: butterchurn-feedback-hook`.
- Obligation: keep `vendor/butterchurn/LICENSE` next to the bundle (it publishes).

### canvasui.dev registry ports

- Files: `vendor/clouds.js`, `vendor/droplets.js`, `vendor/glitch.js`,
  `vendor/retro-dither.js`, `vendor/ripple.js`, `vendor/vhs.js`.
- Licence: "MIT + Commons Clause", from the canvasui.dev FAQ: "use every component
in any personal or commercial app or website, free forever. The only
restriction is reselling or redistributing the components themselves, whether
alone, in a bundle, or as a port." canvasui.dev publishes no licence page
(`/license` returns 404) and names no copyright holder; the registry item JSON
  carries no notice.
- Source: the canvasui.dev shadcn registry (`r/<name>-react`).
- Modifications: the React wrappers, default exports and TypeScript types are
  stripped. `glitch.js` and `retro-dither.js` add a content-free shader branch.
- Obligation: use inside lofy.dev is allowed by the FAQ; redistributing the ports
outside lofy is not. Each file header now says so.
- `vendor/blaze.js` and `vendor/laser.js` state that they are original
canvasui-style effects, not registry ports. canvasui.dev also lists effects
named Blaze and Laser; see Open questions.

### threejs-scenes-vault ports

- Files: `js/scenes/aurora_curtain.js`, `infinite_tunnel.js`, `perlin_wave.js`,
  `tube_path.js`, `twinkling_stars.js`, `voronoi.js`, `wave_plane.js`.
- Licence: MIT. Copyright (c) 2026 Anurag Singh.
- Source: https://github.com/Oval17/threejs-scenes-vault (`code/scenes/*.html`).
- Modifications: ported from r128 standalone pages to r183 scene classes;
renderer boilerplate removed, resources tracked for disposal, re-paletted,
shared props added. `docs/scenes.md` has the recipe.
- Obligation: include the copyright and permission notice with copies. Each file
header carries the copyright line and points here.

### crt-shader

- Files: `vendor/crt-shader/shaders.js`, `presets.js`, `LICENSE`, `NOTICE.md`
  (byte-identical to the npm tarball, hashes in `vendor/crt-shader/VENDORED.md`);
  the port in `js/viz/fold/crt.js`.
- Licence: MIT. Copyright (c) 2026 Brooklyn (OutThisLife).
- Source: npm `crt-shader@1.0.1` (https://github.com/OutThisLife).
- Modifications: none to the vendored files. `js/viz/fold/crt.js` rewrites the
GLSL ES 3.00 strings to ES 1.00 at load, replaces the texelFetch prepare pass
with a 4-tap one (plus vibrance), and hosts the passes on Hydra's WebGL1
context with raw GL. The pass bodies are unchanged.
- Article inspiration, kept apart from the implementation credit as NOTICE.md
asks: Datagubbe, "The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art" (https://datagubbe.se/crt/)
and "The Peach meme" (https://datagubbe.se/crt2/). The author of those
articles does not endorse this port.
- Obligation: keep the copyright and permission notice and NOTICE.md's
attribution with copies. No visible badge required.

### threejs-conference (Threejs-Punk) ports

- Files: `js/scenes/lib/punk/ground.js`, `clouds.js`, `boxBlur.js`,
  `billboard.js`, `chroma.js`, `looks.js`, `rain.js`.
- Licence: MIT. Copyright (c) 2026 Anderson Mancini and Sunag.
- Source: https://github.com/ektogamat/threejs-conference (package name
"threejs-punk"), the public ancestor of threejspunk.com.
- Modifications: TSL node graphs rewritten as WebGL GLSL ES 1.00 helpers; the
original textures do not ship (procedural noise instead). Each file header
  lists its changes.
- Not used: the threejspunk.com production bundle (no licence, so all rights
reserved; lofy only studied it) and the rain-on-glass shaders, whose lineage
is CC BY-NC-SA. lofy's lens drops (`js/scene.js` `LensDropsEffect`) and rain
  ripples are clean-room.
- Obligation: include the copyright and permission notice with copies. Each file
header carries the copyright line and points here.

## Data and assets

### Hydra gallery sketches

- Files: `presets/hydra/*.json` (2,500), `presets/hydra/index.json`,
  `presets/hydra/ATTRIBUTION.md`.
- Licence: CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, as recorded by `presets/hydra/tools/ingest.mjs` and in
  each preset's `meta.license`. Licence text:
  https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/
- Source: https://hydra.ojack.xyz/?sketch_id=<id> (gallery API
  `api.hydrasynth.xyz`).
- Authors: the gallery records carry no author names, so `meta.author` equals the
  `sketch_id` in all 2,500 presets.
- Modifications: each sketch is converted from source to a JSON AST, its values
are limited by `js/viz/hydra/calm.js`, and the player may splice or retime a
chain at runtime. `ATTRIBUTION.md` states this.
- Obligations named by the licence: attribution (kept in every file and in
  `ATTRIBUTION.md`, which publishes); indicate modifications (as above);
NonCommercial (lofy.dev is free, with no ads); ShareAlike (the adapted presets
  stay CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
- Not verified: the gallery's own terms page. See Open questions.

### butterchurn-presets

- Files: `presets/milkdrop/*.json` (1,754 presets plus `index.json`),
  `presets/milkdrop/LICENSE`, `vendor/butterchurn/presets/curated.json` (33).
- Licence: MIT. Copyright (c) 2013-2018 Jordan Berg.
- Source: https://github.com/jberg/butterchurn-presets (npm
  `butterchurn-presets@2.4.7`).
- Modifications: converted to one JSON file per preset; `curated.json` is a subset.
- Obligation: keep `presets/milkdrop/LICENSE` published (it is).
- Note: the original MilkDrop presets were written by many authors (their names
are in the preset titles) and relicensed upstream.

### Quaternius Universal Animation Library

- Files: `assets/models/runner.glb`, `assets/models/runner.json`.
- Licence: CC0 1.0. Author: Quaternius (https://quaternius.com).
- Source: https://quaternius.itch.io/universal-animation-library
- Modifications: cut from 45 clips to 4, see `assets/models/LICENSE.md`.
- Obligation: none. lofy credits the author as the author asks.

### Quaternius Cars Pack, "Sports Car"

- Files: `assets/models/car/car.glb`, `assets/models/car/car.json`.
- Licence: CC0 1.0. Author: Quaternius (https://quaternius.com).
- Source: https://quaternius.com/packs/cars.html, downloaded from
  https://poly.pizza/m/1mkmFkAz5v (checked 2026-09-28).
- Modifications: wheels split and re-pivoted, turned to face -Z, lights on their
own nodes, materials re-tuned, pruned and quantized. The list is in
  `assets/models/car/LICENSE.md` and `car.json`; rebuild with
  `tools/car/build.mjs`.
- Obligation: none. lofy credits the author.

### Google Lyria beds

- Files: `assets/lyria/*.wav` (23), `assets/manifest-lyria.json`.
- Made with `google/lyria-3-clip-preview` through OpenRouter; the pipeline is in
`tools/lyria/README.md`. Google embeds a SynthID watermark in Lyria output.
- Terms as read during the 1.0.0 review: the Gemini API Additional Terms
(https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms) say Google does not claim ownership of
generated content, output is not exclusive, and the user must follow the
Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy. OpenRouter's terms
(https://openrouter.ai/terms) defer output rights to the model's terms.
- Obligation: no attribution requirement found. lofy discloses the AI origin in
  `llms.txt` and the page's JSON-LD.

### Procedural sample packs

The warm, noir, event-ambience and mixer-loop packs (`assets/*.wav`,
`assets/noir/`, `assets/amb/`, `assets/ambient/`) come from lofy's own generators
in `tools/`. The reference MIDI behind `docs/lofi-reference-analysis.md` (LoFi
Piano MIDI Kit Vol 1, Lofi Lab) is not in the repo; the doc holds statistics only.

### Owner-made recordings and models

- **Retro packs** (`assets/retro/*.wav`, 160 stems; `assets/manifest-retro.json`):
rendered by `tools/gen_retro.py` from KO II SNESified, a sample pack the owner,
Stas Kulesh, recorded, generated and produced from native sounds of the owner's
own instruments on a Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II. No third-party sound.
  Provenance and licence: `assets/retro/LICENSE.md`. The arrangements are original;
the Doom-community MIDI compositions that informed phrase statistics are not in
the repo, and `docs/retro/retro-midi-analysis.*` holds statistics only.
- **Watcher model** (`assets/characters/watcher-croupier.glb`): the owner's own
procedural model, built by `blender-gambler-npcs.py` in the owner's dead-air
  project; no third-party parts.

### Fonts

Press Start 2P and VT323 are SIL Open Font License 1.1. `index.html` and
`tools/og-template.html` load them from `fonts.googleapis.com`; lofy does not
redistribute the font files. `og.png` contains rendered text.

## Dev-only tools (not distributed)

`@playwright/test` (Apache-2.0), wrangler (run through `npx`), and the Python
tools behind `tools/lyria/process.py`: librosa (ISC), numpy (BSD-3-Clause),
soundfile (BSD-3-Clause) and pedalboard 0.9.25 (GPL-3.0; it wraps Rubber Band for
`time_stretch`). The retro tools (`tools/gen_retro.py`,
`tools/analyze_retro_midi.py`) add mido (MIT) and scipy (BSD-3-Clause).
`tools/amb/measure.mjs` calls ffmpeg. None of these ship to
lofy.dev. They matter only if the repository itself is ever distributed.

## Decisions

Taken by the owner on 2026-09-28. They settle open questions 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 below.

- **lofy is a non-commercial project.** No ads, paid tier or sponsorship.
- **lofy's own code is licensed under the GNU AGPL-3.0** (option A of question 1). The full
text is `LICENSE` at the repository root and `endless_lofi_engine/LICENSE`, which the deploy
publishes next to this file. This also removes the combined-work question for hydra-synth.
- **Source offer (AGPL-3.0 section 13).** lofy has no build step: the site serves its
JavaScript unminified, and the hydra-synth modifications are the commented shims at the top
of `vendor/hydra-synth.js`. The served files are the corresponding source. The Help dialog
links the licence and these notices.
- **Hydra gallery presets stay** under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0, which the non-commercial decision
satisfies. Adaptations lofy makes of them (fold splices) carry the same licence.
- **canvasui ports stay** while the repository is private and nothing is sold. Replace them
with original shaders before the repository is made public.

## Open questions

These were written for the owner's decision; see Decisions above for 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7.

1. **hydra-synth is AGPL-3.0.** lofy.dev serves a modified hydra-synth to every
visitor, and lofy's own modules import it in the same JavaScript realm. Open
points: whether serving it counts as conveying; whether lofy's modules form a
combined work with it (the FSF reads same-realm imports that way); and whether
the minified bundle meets "preferred form" for source. Options:
   - A. License lofy's own code under AGPL-3.0 (or a compatible licence), ship the
AGPL text and a source offer.
   - B. Comply for hydra-synth only (notice, licence text, source offer) and get
legal advice on the combined-work question.
   - C. Replace hydra-synth with a clean-room AST-to-GLSL renderer on regl (MIT).
hydra's GLSL function library is AGPL too, and the 2,500 presets and fold mode
depend on its semantics. Large effort.
   - D. Ask Olivia Jack for a separate licence or written permission.
   - E. Drop the Hydra layer. Large: fold mode and the css Hydra paths change.

Serving hydra-synth from a CDN instead of vendoring it leaves the combined-work
   question in place.
2. **Hydra presets are CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.** While the pack ships, lofy must stay
non-commercial: ads, a paid tier or sponsorship would conflict with NC. Options:
keep them and state the constraint; remove the pack before any commercial step
(the four hand-written sketches remain); or seek permission (impractical, the
authors are anonymous sketch ids). The licence claim rests on
`ingest.mjs`; confirm it against the gallery's published terms.
3. **canvasui Commons Clause.** It blocks making the repository public or
packaging the effects. Options: keep the repo private; replace the six ports
with original shaders before any public release; get written terms and a
copyright holder from canvasui.dev. Also confirm that `blaze.js` and `laser.js`
   are original.
4. **gl-matrix.** The `vendor/hydra-synth.js` header says gl-matrix is inlined.
hydra-synth 1.4.0 does not declare it and no gl-matrix symbols were found.
Verify, and add its MIT notice if present.
5. **Lyria beds.** The model is a preview; pre-GA terms can change. Purely
AI-generated audio may not be protectable, so lofy may not be able to stop
   reuse of the beds.
6. **The repo's own licence.** There is no LICENSE file, so the private repo is
all rights reserved by default. Decide question 1 first.
7. **AGPL text.** If option A or B is chosen, add the full AGPL-3.0 text to the
   deploy next to this file.
